Happy Birthday George McGovern

In 1972 I lived in Whittier, CA when McGovern ran against Nixon for President. Of course Nixon won in a landslide but before we knew that we drove through Whittier, Nixon's hometown, at 8:00 AM hanging out of our car windows, banging on the metal and screaming at all the people in the streets and other cars: "Vote for McGovern!" Happy Birthday, George where ever you are!
My mother had a successful theatre company in San Francisco that performed political satire, so I learned about current events by watching them played out on stage. Although I was only 9 when my folks were lobbying for McGovern, I definitely understood it was an intense and historic time.
