Why is it...?

... that there is not one female celebrity today who can hold a candle to women like Marilyn, Bridgette and Sophia?

Come up with one; place it under "comments." I dare you...

Okay Ed, before you dig yourself in any deeper, I have a list of movies I'd like you to watch. Then come back and tell me that Kidman and Swank hold a candle. Hell, they don’t even light a match!

Sorry if I'm being mean, I just want to help you.

"Some Like it Hot" (1959) Monroe

"And God Created Woman" (1957) Bardot

"Boy on a Dolphin" (1957) Loren

Katie Bowen ???? Oh wait .., you said a celebrity ...

um ... can't think of any either ...

Edtime Stories said...

hmmmmm now you are going to make me watch those movies again and think of you. Okay, there is no glamour in Hollywood. How do we bring it back?

First of all, this is not a fair discussion because of eras, different rules and we are comparingn a career versus works in progress. Although a few of mine below are "larger than life" now.

Also, why is Nicole Kidman not pass the test? She has an Academy Award, was killer in To Die For and done great work in many other movies. (I LOVED her in Moulin Rouge).

Anyway, rebut these if you can and no dismissive two liners allowed:

Isabelle Hubert (sex appeal + acting)
Kate Winslet (sex appeal + acting talent)
Carmen Diaz (sex appeal + comedy)
Scarlett Johansen (sex appeal, comedy + acting)
Reese Witherspoon (sex appeal, comedy + acting)

If you read Ms Katie's latest entry Anonymous, you will see her answer to you question ...

The women you cite may well be good "actors" but they remain actors ... They do not have sensuality, sexuality and that quality that women like Monroe, Bardot, and I would add Bacall, Bergman and even Grace Kelly had in spades.

Yes, it's different eras - the women in the classical films didn't make a career out of tight shirts, short skirts and gratuitous nudity ... They used their femininity, their sexuality, their talent and their sense of who they really were ...

I'm with Katie on this one ... there are no actresses today in Hollywood who can hold a candle to any of those mentioned.

An oscar doesn't really mean anything ... look at how many incredibly talented people who are true masters of their craft have no oscars. Oscars ultimately are about popularity, NOT talent ... you have to wow your peers ... and that's a pretty shallow pool ...

Dear Anonymous,

I'm not posting your second comment because I think you've turned a question about sexuality in Hollywood into a personal rant.

And this is my blog, only I get to do that...

(Was that dismissive enough for you?)

Lucy Lui ??

Hey, Anonymous,

Don't you know better than to mess with a a Leo Woman?

(Guess you didn't get the memo.)

Katie Bowen said...

Lucy Lui is seriously sexy and very classy. I think you may be on to something Rev.

Oh hell, gotta be somewhere in 20 minutes, not used to so much activity at The Half Note. (See, this is why I, for the most part, stay away from politics. Things get nasty... and not in a good way.)

Andiamo!

Edtime Stories said...

wow quite a robust conversation.
hmmmmmmm
I didn't think it was that important

Katie Bowen said...

A bit too robust for The Half Note if you ask me.

And you're right, it certainly wasn't that important.

(There's that damn picture of me again... Christ.)

I love the pic....but you know you can change it right?
