Once in a while I get this question: If you were stranded on an island with only five albums, which five would they be?
Without a doubt, one of them would be Midnight Blue by Kenny Burrell.
To listen to Burrell's Chittlins Con Carne with Stanley Turrentine on sax, please click the music player just to the right.
Now get me to that island!

Can't listen to it at work, but I from the title I can tell it must be good. Food-themed music is one of my secret passions.
Katie,
We have a radio programme in the UK that has been going for fifty years called desert Island discs. You get 8 tracks to play, a book of your choice and 1 luxury. Famous people get to choose theirs on the programme. It is great. The five?
Gabor Szabo/Bobby Womack - High Contrast
Miles - Jack Johnson
Edu Lobo - Cantiga De Longue
Yusuf Lateef - Eastern Sounds
My fifth choice is a cheat. I would make my own 70 minute compilation of 20 great soul tracks to include Curtis, Bill Withers, Five Stairteps, Dramatics, Chi-Lites, Delfonics, Marvin, Stevie, Donny Hathaway... you get the drift. Perhaps, if you will indulge me I can do my twenty soul classics on your blog tomorrow.
Practical: As always, thank you for sharing your selects. And by all means, offer up some soul!
How could I have forgotten 'Journey to the One' by Pharoah Sanders. Shame on you Doug. So it replaces the Edu Lobo.
But Katie, busy as you are, you set a challenge to your readers and now you must rise to the challenge yourself!
